Saptarshi Mondal (seven star cluster)

Saptarishi Mondal (seven star cluster) eminently appears in the north sky ,in the evening of Autumn season( Bengali Hemanta).Kalpurush is also found ,which will be discussed elsewhere latter on. The star cluster named in the names of seven rishis/sages from ancient times in India. The Sat path Bramana and Brihadaranyaka Upanishad (2.2.4) acknowledge the names of seven rishis (or Saptarishis) as:

  •       Atria
  •       Bharadvaja
  •       Gautama
  •       Jamadagni
  •       Kashyapa
  •       Vasista
  •       Viswamitra

Names differs in different Veda, Samhita , Mahabharata and somewhere els.

The reason for differences is that there are seven Rishis who govern the functioning of the Cosmos in batches and all the Rishis have had the post of a ‘Saptarshi’at same point. These Rishis  had different names in different places. Saptarishis  are seven rishis and nobody else is given the title of the Saptarishis. Hence clearly they had different names but, many rishis were known as Maharishis (great sages).

Dwaraka, the ancient Indian city

Capital of historical Thailand Dwarabati is not the subject of this article. Subject is Dwaraka of Mahabharata which also called Dwarabati. Both name used in Sanskrit language .Its space time and characters existence was in reality .Till some evidence, somewhere ruins found. Somewhere reconstructions, somewhere archeological discovery found .With the existence of Dwaraka it is to be agreed that dwarakadhish existed.

It is also to be agreed with the existence of dwaraka that the king politician, expert defense strategist, sociologist, kin chariot driver, fighter, lion hearted dwarakadhish, the great Jadav Krishna also existed in reality. Jadav Krishna is equally relevant till to-day. This chapter will be discussed later on. Now back to Dwaraka .Indian Federal structure putting Delhi in centre the position of states was recorded in Indian constitution in 1957 and subsequent times. This also found centering Dwaraka position of other states .That is, long ago prior to 1957 there was federal structure in ancient India. In the light of Dwaraka it is to see what other states were. Dwaraka was ruled by Jadaves .Anarta was a Capital/state in ancient India subsequently submerged in the sea. Due to aggression of Jarasandha the king of Magadha, Jadavas escaping from Surasen Mathura established their rule here.

In Mahabharata age  the states/capitals  formed federal state under Dwaraka was as follows: 1.Cadi (Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh}2.Surasena(Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh which is also called as Brajadham) 3.Darsana(In the south of Cadiz)4.Karasa(East of  Darsana  )5.Kunti(East of  Abanti state)6.Abanti(  Ujjaini  district of Madhya Pradesh)7.Malab(West of Abanti)8.Gujrat(south of Rajasthan) 9. Hea/ Haihya (Normada vally Madhya Pradesh) 10.Sourastra (South Gujrat) 11.Dwaraka (sea coast of Gujrat}.  Rebaki wife of KrishnaBalaram was a daughter of Dwaraka.  Srimati Radha   was a daughter of Darsana 12.Vidarbha (North West Maharastra).Additional some other Island states were under Dwaraka Federal State.

Civilization blossomed in the Ice age at the sea coastal areas. Prior to 8000 years B. C. Dwaraka City existed, due to a great Tsunami it was submerged in the sea. Dwaraka was one of the seven cities of the ancient India. This Dwaraka was the capital of king Krishna, here he lived. Dwaraka is mentioned in Mahabharata Haribansa Puran, Bhagvat Puran, Scondha Puran and Bisnu Puran. It is said that this Dwaraka City was located near the present Dwaraka City which submerged in the sea. This city was constructed by the great Engineer Viswakarma according to the order of Krishna. Land of the City was begged from Sea (in other wards land made available by filling the sea).Planning and construction made at Western sea coast of present Surat. It is a planned city located by the river side Gomoti. This city was known as Dwaramati, Dwarabati or Kusasthali. It had seven well organized sectors .Residential  and Commercial sectors had broad road ,plaza, many palaces  and  public places ,a public meeting hall was constructed naming  Sudham  Sabha .A  harbor also constructed .There was  seven lakh. Palaces made of gold, silver and other valuable stones. So many   beautiful flower gardens blossomed throughout the year.

Sri Krishna started for Baikuntha leaving this earth after thirty six years of Mahabharata War. Three thousand one hundred thirty eight years B.C. and after the death of other Jadaves due to fight among themselves. To restore security for grandson of SriKrishna and Jadav women to take them to Hastinapur Arjun arrived at Dwaraka. After Arjun left Dwaraka it went under the sea. In Mahabharata Arjun Said “The sea rushed towards the city, tides in high speed entered through the roads, sea flooded the entire city. I saw beautiful houses one by one submerging .In reality within a few minutes all is over. The sea became calm and quiet like pond and there is no sign of the city, Dwaraka a name only.”

The incident of submerging Dwaraka under the sea is also mentioned in the Vishnu Puran. The day Sri Krishna left earth was the starting of Kali Yug. Sea rose vigorously and Dwaraka city submerged under the sea.

Thanks!

The author hosted in an apartment, its anexture, even the total locality covered by South Indian people.Rangoli drawn in front of almost all houses.Rongali also known as Kolam or Muggu, is an Indian folk art in which patterns are created in living rooms or courtyards. Colam is a form of painting  that is drawn by using  rice powder/chalk /chalk powder/white rock powder/ often use naturally/synthetically colored powders in Tamil Nadu , Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh Kerala and some parts of Goa, Maharashtra, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and a few other Asian countries. A Colam is a geometrical line drawing composed of curved loops, drawn around a grid pattern of dots. In south India it is widely practiced by female Hindu family members and colures are often added during holiday occasional events like Denali, on am, pongol and barolakshmi puja. Kolams are regionally known by different  names in India.Roongolee in Maharastra,Hase and  Roongoli in Kannda  in Karnataka ,Muggulu in Andhra,Golam in Kerala  mandana, in Rajasthan, chaookpurna in Chattisgarh ,Alpana in  West Bengal  Aripana  in Bihar, chowk  pujan  in Uttar Pradesh etc.More complex colams are drawn in front of their houses in special occations.

Cow dung is then mixed with water and this slurry is expertly spread on the requisite area and spread evenly    with a broom .This is done on a regular basis in rural areas and of festive occasion’s income urban areas where there is availability of sufficient cow dung and space to draw the muggu. This procedure is performed as it is believed that cow dung has antiseptic properties and hence provides a literal threshold of protection for a home. The muggu is then drawn on this prepared surface .The dark color of the cow dung slurry also provides a good contrast for the white powder of the muggu.

Nilgiri Hills and it's Tribes

At Nandi Hills Nilgiri pigeons found in numbers. Nilgiri is brand name of so many products. The 1 st recorded word Nila applied to this region can be traced to 1117 AD in the report of a general of Vishnuvardhana King of Hoysalas . The Hoysala Empire was a prominent Southern Indian Knnadiga empire that ruled most of the modern-day state of Karnataka between the 10 th and 14 th Centuries. The King who in reference to his enemies, claimed to have frightened the To-das, driven the Kangas underground. Slaughtered the Pallavas, put to death the Malayalas , terrified King of Kala and then proceeded to offer the pick of Nila mountain (presumably Dodabetta) to Laksmi, Goddess of wealth. The original inhabitants of the Nilgiri Hills were the Toda, Badaga, Kota, Irula and Kurumbas.

Toda Family
The Toda language is a member of Dravidian family. Todas live in small hamlets called munds. The Toda Huts which are of an oval pent-shaped construction are usually 10 feet high, 18 feet long and 9 feet wide. They are built of bamboo fastened with rattan and are thatched .Each hut is enclosed within a wall of loose stones .The front and back of the hut are usually made of dressed stones (most granite). The hut has a tiny entrance at the front –about three feet wide, 3 feet tall. This unusually small entrance is a means of protection from the wild animals. The front portion is decorated with the Toda art forms, a kind of rock mural painting. Thicker bamboo canes arched to give the hut its basic pent shape. Thinner bamboo canes are tied close and parallel to each other over this frame. Dried grasses is stacked  over ,this is as thatch.

Todas and Kotas have shared genes which separate them from the other Nilgiri Hills Tribes. The Toda dresses consists of single piece of cloth, which is worn like the plaid of a Scottish high lender over a dhoti for men and skirt for women .The symbols from traditional costumes are very old Thracian-Danubian culture(dacian/ scytian/getic).

According to the Todas, the Goddess Teikirshy and her brother first created the sacred buffalo and then the first Toda man. The first Toda woman was created from the right rib of the first Toda man.

A passage to Nandi Hills

Those  having mastered seed  under the foot ,looks for holy days around the Calendar .To take a tripe anywhere, in and abord,to get  some relief  from  tress and tension of daily life and for enjoyment, amusement  education and so on .A passage to  Nandi Hills may be taken into consideration. It was called Anandagiri hills of happiness during the period of Cholas of the 11th Century. Among other stories about the  origin of the name Nandi Hills it is perhaps called so because the hill resembles a Sleeping bull(Nandi). This hill station has a number of things to observe and most important among all a Dravidian Temple which is around 1200 years old. Carved on a rock, the two complexes of the Temple make it more significant. Where one complex houses the deity sculptures and the other had a pond which is known as Kalyani and sometimes as Amrut Sarovar. A beautiful water  lake that brims with lucid water all the year round. It is located at about 4851 feet above sea level .

Temple Lake

An incident dseserve to mentilon here.Till for 11 days (NSS CAMP) atop Channagiri a 46-Members team from a city R.C. College has unearthed seven dormant feeder springs which are oozing water again. It was not an easy climb for the younger stars from their base camp at Doddarayappanhalli village two kilometers to the summit. Nandi hills have a motor able road to the summit, but Channarayaswamy Betta does not even have a foot trail, and trekkers have to negotiate bushes and boulders on the way up. When they reached the top; the students were shocked to see the ’Kalyani’ filled with mud. NSS Officer Tripura said the pond looked like a dump yard, with plastic bags and other discarded items covering the entire area.

The 46 strong group as many as 22 were girls, began to clear up the pond with a vengeance , and did not let up  for the next five days, They get on  with the digging till late in the evening .

The patience paid rich dividends .At end of the fifth day, one of the students noticed water bubbling up from a natural spring.  Back at the scene the next day, they found the entire area filled with water .A pump was processed into service to drain off the water and 11 days of preserving labor, seven long dormant springs had been unearthed. Hats off to the students.

Mahisasura to Mysore

Mahisasura to Mysore

Mahisasura  mardini  Goddess Durga(Parvati) daughter of Projapati Dakshya, killed the deman ruller Mahisasura. Mysore gets its name from the buffalo headed demon ruler Mahisasura.Mysore situated 770 meters above sea level and embraced by hill ranges  from north to south. Mysore is also called as a Garden City.According to puranic story in Devi Bhagavata,Mysore was ruled by Mahisasura who created havoc to the Gods. Hearing this plea to save them from the Monster, Goddess Parvati wife of Shiva took birth as Chamundaswari and killed the demon king. After killing Mahisasura  the Gods resided atop Chamundi hill where she is worshipped by devotees with reverence even to-day.
The earliest mention of Mysore  as Mahisarastra is found in the Buddha Depavamsha. In 245 B.C. Ashoke is said to have dispatched a monk to Mahisrastra to spread Buddhism.References about Mysore is also to be find in the great Epic Mahabharata, although there is not much more evidence to support their mention
Mysore was ruled by Cholas and Chalukyas  for over a Century.  Hoysalas drive out Cholas and establish their rule in the land. They excelled   in the Temple architecture and left so exquisitely carved temple as evidence of their successful  regin. The Mysore dynasty was an among many feudatories of the Vijoynagar Empire. In the 16 th Century Bettda  Chamaraja III built a fort in Mysore. It was once again made  the Capital in 1799 after the fall of Tipu Sultan, and transformation of Mysore from a small fort town to handsome city began during the reign of Krishna raja Wodeyar III.

Bangalore the Silicon Valley

Tipu Sultan the brave fighter, perhaps, the only Indian ruler, defeated British Army three times in battle. In the fourth battle British ARMY killed him and captures his territory and handed over to Maharaja of Mysore who made Bangalore the Capital of Mysore. Now it is capital of Karnataka, Silicon Valley of India. Located at a height over about 3000 feet above Sea level. Pleasant climate throughout the year.10 th location in the world. The Western Gangs, Cholas and the Hoysalas ruled the present region of Bangalore until 1537 CE, Kempe Gowda--a feudatory ruler under Vijaynagar Empire established a mud fort considered to be the foundation of  modern Bangalore.

The writer (and his  life partner Aparna, hosting at Bangalore  since March 2014 at the residence of his son Arindam an IBM loriat, Visva Bharati University and EIILM university Scholar ), trying to search out the Magic Lamp hidden in the  sky, air and earth of the Silicon Valley. The following comes out during research. The garden city tuned into a Silicon City not at overnight, but by  constant  progressive thinking, planning-programming  and time bar implementing in all sector related to the development .Vast vacant land ,available  skilled and talented workmanship, resourceful agencies in and aboard, co-ordination with true leadership made possible to achieve the goal.

Bright viable presence of world class educational institutions, their colorful role to develop talents, unbelievable progress of common pupil ,remarkable and exemplary. Success is not a word, a belief to the wards. Efficiency is not a term,  a presentation. Dream is not fantasy, a practical  project. Job is not to secure Lunch and Dinner, a pious religion to carry in life of the Bangalorians. Presence of foreigners from different part of the Globe , glorified and enriched the city.

In fine ,nice people  of the land, in spite of language, life style, food habits, cultural diversity, carrying growth of the Metro police city united.

Thanks

Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace

It is located at Bangalore. This structure has been built entirely with Teak Wood and stands adorned with pillars, arches and balconies .It is an example of Indo-Islamic architecture. It is believed that the Tipu Sultan used to conduct his Durbar (court) from eastern and western balconies of the upper floor. There are four smaller rooms in the corners of 1st floor which were used to known as Zena –na Quarters. There are beautiful floral motifs embellishing the walls of the palace..The site also holds a painting of grand throne visualized by Tipu Sultan himself. Coated with gold sheets and struck with precious emerald stones. Tipu has vowed never to use it until he completely defeated the English Army. Hence, after the death of Tipu, British administration dismantled the throne and auctioned in parts since it was too expensive for a single person to buy it in entire piece . The rooms in the ground floor have been converted into a small museum showcasing various achievements of Tipu Sultan and his administration. There are newly done portraits of the people and places at that time. There is a replica of Tipu’s Tiger, which is presently at the Victoria and Albert Museum at London .The cloths of Tipu Sultan and his crown are present in silver and gold pedestal. The silver vessels given by a General to Hyder Ali is also displayed.
The space in front of the palace developed as a Garden and lawn by Horticulture Department, Government of Karnataka. The palace is opened to public daily from 10 am, to 6 p.m. (except Sundays).
